Downtown Charleston +A Baby Moon pair together so well!
Planning your Downtown Charleston Baby Moon!
From dining to sightseeing to breathing in some salty air, here are some suggestions for things to do on your Charleston Baby Moon!
…
My top suggestion is a simple Downtown Walk: Park your car at the battery(White Point Gardens) and then leisurely walk the sea wall to waterfront park for a rest. (turn right where rainbow row begins to get to the park. Intersection of Tradd and Adgers)
There are plenty of benches all over the park and in the shade where you can catch a cool sea breeze.
Grab a bite to eat along East Bay Street.
There are so many options from just coffee and light fare(Carmellas or Bakehouse), to a full on meal at Magnolias, Pearlz, or Poogan’s Smokehouse.
A stroll through the city market is a must if you’re visiting Charleston. There’s always something unique to find there. End on the indoor side to cool off or warm up depending on the season you’re in town.
You can take Meeting or Church street as a straight shot back to your car at White Point Gardens or if you’re done with walking, catch a pedi-cab and enjoy the ride back.
…
Another great spot for a light stroll is Colonial Lake. It’s just off Broad street in between Ashley and Rutledge and is such a beautiful spot to see in Charleston.
I also can’t not mention Hampton Park near The Citadel. It’s the most perfect spot for a picnic and depending on when you go, there is almost always something in bloom.
…
If you’re down for more walking, I think you can’t leave out a trip to see Magnolia Plantation.
A pretty smock dress to roam the plantation!
It’s pretty anytime of the year, but there are extra special times to visit like Feb. when you can catch the beautiful pops of light pink, March when the azaleas bloom, and then June for the crepe myrtles.
You’ll have to drive away from the downtown area to get here, but it’s worth it. You can also opt to visit Middleton Plantation on the same street a little further down.
On your way back into downtown, stop in at Taco Bartina(formerly Taco Spot), or Mex 1. I prefer Taco Bartina, but Mex 1 seems to be universally loved.
Another unique area of this side of town is Avondale which is located on Hwy 17. It’s funky and vibrant and offers some unique dining options like Triangle Char Bar, Pearlz and the newest addition Ruby Sunshine.
Once upon a time, I had a small studio space in this area and always loved the Main Street small town vibe of this section of town.

A visit to an area beach is also worth the drive away from downtown. You can’t go wrong with Folly Beach heading through James Island or Sullivans Island(through Mount Pleasant).
I love this charming swimsuit for during or after pregnancy or this one with its polka dots and color
Both beaches have plenty of dining options like Poe’s Tavern at Sullivans or Rita’s at Folly.
For ocean front dining, check out Blu next to the pier at Folly.
A neat, yet off the beaten path dining option close to Folly is Bowen’s Island. It’s counter service but they have plenty of tables. They serve up the best fresh seafood and oysters.
If you feel like venturing further to see the ocean, you can visit the beaches of Kiawah and have dinner, ice cream or shop at Freshfields village. Stop and view the old Angel Oak tree if you venture to this side of town.
The Tattooed Moose on Johns Island is another great dining choice somewhat near the Angel Oak tree. You can sit inside or out here and sometimes catch live music. Their fries are the best around!
…
Also not in downtown, but just over the Ravenel bridge is a unique area of Mount Pleasant called Shem Creek that is worth a visit on your baby moon.
All restaurants here offer indoor or outdoor dining along the creek and after you get stuffed, you can walk the pier and dolphin watch.

For a baby moon, I feel your only splurge thing should be a comfy place to stay, wonderful food and a photo shoot (about 33 weeks) to document that bump in a charming vibrant town ;)!
Use your time to just take in the southern charm, the color, the sunsets, the breeze. You can’t go wrong doing it that way and it will be time well spent without breaking your bank.
I love how this dress would be great for your entire trip, but then a perfect one to wear at your home newborn shoot too!

Some of my personal favorite dining options in Downtown Charleston:
Halls Chophouse(King Street)-This is a place we only go when we are celebrating but it’s one of those places you’ll fall in love with from the moment you walk inside.
Coast(John Street/only open for dinner): I always suggest this restaurant to clients b/c it’s the type of place that can be dressed up or casual and there’s something on the menu for everyone.
We started going here when we first moved to Charleston in 2007 and I’ve loved it ever since even though they no longer have the Parm crusted whole flounder :(.
Blind Tiger(broad street): A fun bar that happens to have great food too!
Miller’s All Day-Wonderful Breakfast on King Street just off Broad.
Poogan’s Porch(queen st.)-Great little lunch spot with some unique history. It’s one of those places you just won’t regret going to on a visit to Charleston.
I feel like everybody loves rooftop Dining so here are a few around downtown:
Rooftop bar at Vendue(near waterfront park)-*my favorite one*
Stars Rooftop & Grill
The Watch Rooftop Kitchen
